[NL] Als kunstenares loop ik graag het ongeëffende pad. Ik hou van zwerven, zonder vooropgezet plan. Voor mij geen vakantie aan de Spaanse Costa, maar op pad met een backpack en een Lonely Planet.  Wandelen op blote voeten. Voelen en ontdekken. In het natte gras, of gewoon door de stad. Als het maar zonder route en plan is. Zonder deze twee kom ik namelijk vaak op de mooiste plekken, bij de meest bijzondere mensen en doe ik de geweldige vondsten. Zo is het voor mij ook met het creatieve proces. Ik start met een vonk van inspiratie, trek mijn verfschort aan, en zie waarheen mijn handen en mijn verftubes me leiden. Gelli plate printen is bij uitstek een proces dat vraagt om creativiteit en loslaten van de uitkomst. In dit blog laat ik je zien hoe ik van mijn mooiste gelli plate printjes een boekje maakte.

[ENG] As an artist, i’d like to walk the path that nobody is taking. I’d like to wander, without a plan. You don’t make me happy with a holiday to the Spanish Costa de Sol. I’d rather go traveling with my backpack and a Lonely Planet. Walking bare feet. Feeling and exploring. On wet grass or in a city. I don’t really mind where i’m going as long as it is without a plan and a map. Without these i’ll end up in the most beautiful places, with the most wonderful people and the most exiting discoveries. In the creative proces it works the same for me. I start with a spark of inspiration and, put on my apron, and let my hands and paints lead me. Gelli plate printing is a technic that needs a lot of experimenting and wandering. Being comfortable with not nowing what the outcome will be. In this blog i will show you how i made a little booklet out of my most loved gelli prints.

[NL] Ik startte met 10 vellen stevig wit papier, van het blok op de foto hierboven. Deze vellen beplakte ik met mijn mooiste gelli plate printjes. Lijmadvies: matte gel medium (Liquitex).

[ENG] I started with 10 blank sheets of paper (see picture above). On these blak paper i glued down my most loved gelli plate prints with matte ge medium (Liquitex).

[NL] Ik vouwde alle vellen dubbel met een verfroller en bepaalde een volgorde voor mijn boekje.

[ENG] I folded the pages with a brayer and decided how to order my my pages.

[NL] Daarna maakte ik de cover uit dik grijs karton. Ik beschilderde het karton met 2 lagen zwarte acrylverf (Amsterdam) en drukte zowel op de voor- als op de achterkant een stempel met wit embossing poeder.

[ENG] I made the cover out of grey cardboard. I painted the cardboard with 2 layers of black acrylics (Amsterdam). On the front and the back i embossed stamps in with white embossing powder.

[NL] Daarna bond ik mijn boekje met borduurgaren en een simpele ‘coptic stitch’.

[ENG] I bound my book with embroidery yarn and a simple coptic stitch.
